Many of you are questioning us following emails received from your banks regarding the shutdown of the TLS 1.0 and 1.1 protocols and the obligation to switch to the TLS 1.2 protocol. The SMILE file (from the french aeronautic federation) import module is taking shape.
As usual, we have complicated where we could have done simple. This will to complicate things is explained by:
- allow to easily adapt the system for the day the SMILE export format will change
- be able to import any type of format from any source
This translates into the need to create a type of import with queries to define as for the reports where we got access to SQL queries.
The advantage is obvious: the tool is definitely powerful and open.
In parallel, we will attack the second part of this import module: engine with automatic billing and in advance the possibility of charging qualifications.
OpenFlyers 2.1.0 is now published. This closes the developments on the branch "2" and opens the developments on version 3.
Now customers have the choice between version 2.1.0 and version 3.0alpha.
During its development and consolidation, the 3.0alpha version is priced at 2.1.0 in exchange for the support provided by customers to test and validate new developments.
Any customer who subscribes to version 3.0alpha will keep the same rate for 3.0 final.

The report engine is enriched by the possibility of creating parameters freely.
We aim, in OpenFlyers, is to let our customers the opportunity to shape the application according to their own needs. It is this objective that fits the report generator, unique and practical tool.
Now you can freely create as many parameters as you want and which will thus give you the capability to deal with more powerful reports.
Moreover parameters that can be created are of two types:
"generic" parameters (number, date,etc.)
database parameters which represent an element in the database (user, aircraft, etc.)
This feature thus allows the administrator to create report types even more powerful and to the end user to generate reports for individual items (aircraft, user, etc..) and even mix parameters (obtain list of flights to a particular user on a given aircraft between such date and such date).

Now OpenFlyers 2.1 includes the possibility for the administrator to broadcast as many information messages as desired instead of a single message that appeared on the reservation page.

About the OpenFlyers software
We are about to finish the version 2.0. There are still remaining some minor remaining bugs that we should correct in the next weeks.
The version 2.0 is no more completely free: it's a semi-free software to prevent a competitor to provide the software at half price without having to pay the development costs. This change is justified by the following explanations.
Change in the OpenFlyers team
We decided to move from an association to a limited corporate. A lot of reasons drive us to this choice. Here are some of them:
since 1 year we have hired one employee to support the functionality of OpenFlyers. But our resources are limited in providing a reasonable compensation. But the employee is indispensable to keep the operation and to improve our service. The structure of a company enables us to obtain more resources and plan longer-term development.
5 years ago, when we created the OpenFlyers association, we had 2 goals in mind: to create a solution requested by flight clubs and to federate around us to get help from flight clubs people. 5 years later, the first goal is achieved: flight clubs are satisfied of the software. But the second goal is a fail: we had some "times to times" help but no real movement enabling to share the work and to reduce the time spent by the team.
OpenFlyers 2.0 added lots of functionalities for the flight clubs and we think that it is beneficial for both sides with a real customer/supplier relationship.
We have identified many areas for continuous improvement in future, and we hope that you will be satisfied with our service.
In the OpenFlyers release 2.0, it's now possible to set a maximum quantity of reservations in order to limit the number of reservations for each pilot.
Publication of the 1.2.1 release which, in addition to small minor bugs patches, includes from now the translations in Italian and Spanish. Thank's to Stefano Marchesin (Italian) and Xavier Tightened (Spanish) for their translations!

Following numerous requests from various clubs, we just added in version 2 of OpenFlyers a field enabling each pilot to clarify its destination. Following numerous requests from various clubs, we just added in version 2 of OpenFlyers a field enabling each pilot to clarify its destination.
Moreover, in order to "give" a little hand pilots, we have added an option activated by the administrator of the club, which allows you to oblige the pilot to clarify this famous destination.
Here is how it works:
- The field is empty by default (value "Other")
- If the user does nothing, no destination is taken into account
If the option-forcing the pilot to choose his destination is activated then a stop alert is displayed to ask the pilot to clarify its destination
The option to require the user to set his destination has 3 levels:
Non-functional (free entry)
- Strict (before mandatory for all flights except mechanical and cancel)
Strict - when the length of the reservation is greater than a certain value (to be chosen) multiple of 15 minutes, ranging from 15 minutes to 225 minutes (= 3:45).
We hope that all of this configuration will allow each club to set that element as it wishes.
Now OpenFlyers includes separated warning level for each qualification for flight management. So, you may define some compulsory qualifications and for other only display warning.It's useful for example for the pricing management: dealing correctly with qualifications enable you to prevent pilots to set a flight type for which they are not allowed (and which got a different price).Do not hesitate to ask more explanations on our forum.
